Version 2.0.1

Download REC

Description

REC is a simple recording utility for classi Mac OS, designed to be an alternative to the Sound control panel's record function. Since this is a small stand-alone application, it is much easier and faster to use than Apple's Sound control panel. Say goodbye to digging through folders (or menus) to open the Sound control panel or a big, slow sound editing program to record a simple sound. Just double-click the REC icon, and presto - you are recording. REC will save the sounds you record in System-7 sound format.

What's New in 2.0.1?

REC 2.0.1 has been completely rewritten to allow for some vast improvements and additions:

Each of these features is described below.

Better User Interface

REC's user interface has been totally rewritten. A real-time graphical meter bar has been added to the recording window that shows you the current audio level that the sound input device is picking up. All items in the recording window have been colorized and optimized to allow for a very intuitive and relaxing display.

Asynchronous Recording and Playing

REC 2.0.1 makes use of asynchronous sound recording and playing. This means that users are able to start recording or playing, and go do something else while REC is working. For example, you would be able to start recording, switch to another application, and work in that application, without interrupting REC's processing.

Can Run in the Background

Since REC makes use of asynchronous recording and playing, you can send REC to the background while it is working - just like any other application.

Temporary Memory Support

REC 2.0.1 has an option in the preferences settings dialog that allows it to use Temporary Memory. Temporary Memory is the part of memory that is left over after all currently running applications have taken their share. REC can "tap into" this area of memory, making the job of figuring out how much memory you need to allocate to the REC application in order to record a certain length sound obsolete. Since some versions of the Macintosh Operating System do not support Temporary Memory, this option may or may not be available on your system.

A Note From The Author...

I wrote REC because I wanted a fast, simple way to record sounds on my Macintosh. I think others may find this a useful utility; so I am releasing it to the public. REC is shareware. I could bore you with the "support shareware titles" line, but I won't. If you decide not to support shareware titles, that's your decision, and you'll have to live with it.

If you find a bug, please contact , and we will correct the problem immediately.
